Hylotephium pluricaule

Stonecrop originally from Siberia, the Amur region. It grows in parts of the mountains nezalesněných between small conifer, in the clefts of rocks, and steep cliffs on the coast. Distinctive, very succulent, entire leaves are densely crowded on short, upright stems. Throughout the vegetation are pearly pink to purple-gray color.

All forms of Sedum pluricaule form a thick, about 5 cm high mounds with distinctive purple flowers. The species is very often confused with Sedum ewersii var. homophyllum, which is unlike Sedum pluricaule bright gray-green color throughout the season. The stems are slightly procumbent and in contact with the ground well rooted. In this way the plant is naturally growing, while Sedum pluricaule grows every year from the same rhizome. Both plants can be replaced only during the sprouting spring, then seem entirely clear differences. The confusion is also designated as plants cv. Rosentepich. This is a cultivar of Sedum ewersii var. homophyllum not pluricaule Sedum. On the Czech market ranging plants are also offered commercially under the name Sedum cyaneum, which is completely incorrect labeling. There are other varieties and transitional forms of Sedum pluricaule. NSome have white flowers and are available on the market abroad, mainly in Japan and the USA.

Growing this beautiful stonecrop is not difficult. The plant requires full sun, thrives well in moderate shade. Habitat must be completely drained, slightly moist soil. Therefore, it is an ideal location in the rocks and in crevices between the stones. Due to small size is suitable for garden planting container and stone troughs. Magically works in combination with other plants planted in wicker basket placed on the table outside on the terrace. It is one of the most beautiful and sedum, which should not be missed on any garden.
