To my surprise, there was a relatively large losses for common European species such as Sedum hispanicum minus, minus Aureum hispanicum Sedum, Sedum and Sedum dasyphyllum forsterianum. These kinds I almost died and left a rich clumps pieces, which again takes root.

On the other hand, I underwent hard this winter more sensitive test Japanese species, Sedum makinoi variegata, surculososum Sedum, Sedum and Sedum tetractinum rupifragum. Because the species appeared last year in my collection for the first time and experience I have had zero overwintering, to ensure I have enough for winter backup of plants that I rozmístnila to various locations, both in the garden and in the hotbed or cold conditions netopených rooms. I admit that I was convinced that just about the plants and the result will come try me pleasantly surprised. Their good condition certainly influenced by the high snow cover, so the winters, when not enough snow will certainly be necessary to protect chvojím.

As another kind of passed that test is Sedum polytrichoides that is emerging on the Czech market, thanks to the gardeners, unfortunately, again, under the wrong name, such as Sedum rupestre zimuvzdorná form. As I wrote in a post dedicated to this beautiful stonecrop, S. polytrichoides not completely zimuvzdorný. Therefore, a test plant was left up over the winter freely in the garden - death. The other two were traveling in the winter back into the room with a temperature of 0-5 ° C. For this kind of winter dressing is required, otherwise dry.

A bit is kind of spoiled sempervivoides Sedum, which requires wintering in dry conditions. So its winter habitat was outside, on a specially prepared place for the location of the entire collection. It consists of two large breasts, which were partly covered roof, so there throughout the winter was dry and I could stack the snow only on selected species. This place was just perfect for S. sempervivoides that got snow up to the time when it became a long-term freezing and thawing threaten alternate freezing and snow.

At the same, a sheltered place over winter were placed high types rodiol - Rhodiola rosea, R. rosea arctica, R. walichiana and R. integrifolia. Those suits freezing cold and dry habitats. In any other case may be the roots decay and death throughout rosltiny. Different species require pomínky R. troll and R. pachyclados. You can do over the winter wet conditions without damage.
