Sedum ellacombianum
Phedimus ellacombianus
Sedum ellacombianum is striking and unmistakable species originating from the Japanese island of Hokkaido and Korea. Characteristic for this plant are pea-green leaves that change to shades of red or in a sunny location. The plant produces dense, spreading vegetation kopečkovitého shape, growing to a height of 10 cm. These are covered in summer with plenty of distinctive yellow flowers. Fruits at ripening gradually change color from orange to rusty red. Even though the plant is unmistakable in appearance, is quite often confused with procumbent forms of Sedum kamtschaticum and offered under the wrong name as a cultivar of Sedum kamtschatikum 'Elacombianum' or a Sedum ssp kamtschatikum ellacombianum
Ellacombianum Sedum thrives in well-shaded parts of the gardens
as well as in full sun. The species is rapidly increasing, so is not suitable for general planting in the rockery. It could be that due to growth bujnějšímu covers everything in its vicinity, which is not always desirable. It is ideal to use in the shadowy corners of the garden, that its fresh color, bright flowers and later fruit beautifully illuminated. I also proven plant for the combined garden planting in containers, along with variegátní kamtschaticum form of Sedum and Sedum spurium červenolistými cultivars.
Soil for planting should be well-drained soil, mainly as a protection against přemokřením during the winter, when above-ground portion of the first freezing plant dies and the heart is sensitive to waterlogging, resulting in decay. For a rich growth and flowering should be from spring to late summer in the sunny habitat hearty salad dressing, in a shady spot, then adequate to prevent waterlogging. Significant blooms begin to appear from early summer and after trimming odkvetlých often plant flowers in bloom remontuje. Inflorescence but it is not so rich. Nature does not require special care or protection, winters very well in our conditions.
