The conditions for growing
The genus Sedum is a large family, which can be found on almost the entire northern hemisphere. Some species require heat stroke, some shade, some species grow on the bottom of the marshy banks of streams and rivers, other species found on the cliffs above the sea level and collect moisture from the sea-tide seawater. As shown, a single crop is not matter, as, unfortunately, in most presented. Usually hear people .. "when stonecrop and the sunburn." Perhaps such Sedum stoloniferum (now Phedimu stoloniferus) in full sun most definitely wiped. For successful cultivation is a must create good conditions. This will save much time and I worry that you do not pay then save the plants.
When grown individual species is important to find information on where to actually species grow in their localities. Maybe I was surprised when I read descriptions of sites Sedum clavatum. Species grows in shady and humid places, in hollows, in the vertical joints and crevices of rocks. And because it's kind in Mexico, most of us would have placed it in full sun, which would probably not so good. Just the fact that on hot summer days growing roots in the container after pouring too hot and can cause the evaporating and subsequent necrosis. It is not so much here on the sunshine, which until
so the plant will not hurt, but the air temperature. Under the terms of which are found easily odovodíme that requires cooler moist air. It grows in the cracks then shows that the plant does not like waterlogging, because the vertical position indicates the rapid drainage of water.
To get an idea here I will describe how I placed my collection. For the collection (150 species), I have specifically set aside instead of two 7 m long sill. They are pitted against each other so that on the one hand, catch the first morning sun on the side opposite the sun midday and afternoon. Half of the first sill is shaded by 10 hours, there are placed species that require shade. The second half is insolate up to 13 hours. The second sill has sunshine 10 to 15 hours. And again it is time sunbathing divided into two parts. The first half catching the sun from morning to
the eleventh hour (there are mostly Mexican YPES who love the sun but not long-term sunburn), the other half from 10 am until the afternoon. Both sills on a concrete surface is below ground level so that all dishes are put on them along with trvalkovým bed of that whole area around lines. For this growing sedum is the ideal location. During the summer heat, when most succulent stagnant Just pour the surrounding flower beds and thus provide enough humidity for succulents, which it obviously suits.
Of course, if you have several types, no need to worry about tvytvářením special conditions, plantation location and always strive for the best place. But what I have described is actually verified by experience, when I gradually as the collection grows, finding the most ideal conditions for building a complete collection without having to be different in different species, from widely separated locations garden. Pamtuji very well when I first collection in plants traveled all over the garden and looking for a place nejleší. Either he was too sunny or too much for some kinds of shady.
Often people write to me that after reading these pages to realize why
They grow some species, mainly due to poorly selected location where they are planted. I personally most surprised when I started studying this genus, many species require at least a shadow or penumbra. And in turn, some species such as Sedum oreganum requires the greatest heat stroke and drier conditions, especially in the winter. In full sun creates a wonderfully compact, tightly serried cake kramínově dark glossy colored roses. In the absence of light is a bunch of efflorescent, lanky and completely disappears red coloring sheets.
Also interesting is the variability of sedum in different seasons. Otherwise, look in the spring or summer and some of the most beautiful in the fall. Most species have a fresh spring green leaves, and the procedure of their coloration becomes more pronounced and sytějším. Emphasizes the some lines that madých the drawings are not visible. Typically lydium Sedum. The spring is lush green in summer leaf color in the dark cones and red in autumn becomes dark green. Just behave and Sedum tetractinum, rich cabbage is changed to
bronze and goes back to green. Then there are species such as Sedum elacombianum to its lush, green pea maintains throughout the year until autumn. Někěteré species disappear completely after flowering (Sedum Aizoon) and some will show their colors at the end of the growing season, when their leaves in different colors in ostíny red to bronze. I personally fascinated rupifragum Sedum. A beautiful species with bright green leaves that bronze in autumn flocks in September. Just as Sedum rupestre 'Angelina'. Type who loves the sun in the spring of September golden yellow color of its leaves čárkovitých. Before
flower is better budding flower stalks sestřihnout, the plant is zmladí, resumes in the fall colors and new additions from their summer peaks zalatavých leaves turn to bronze. Obodobně the chodvá and Sedum acre 'Yellow Queen'.
And so I could go on forever. World Stonecrop is a diverse, highly variable due to its variability and definitely not boring. Try one species of plant in different kinds of soil, place the various places in the garden and you'll be surprised how many forms you suddenly appear.
